I moved to Bend from Austin, Texas in August 2016. My background as an RN was critical care/ ICU nursing for over 10 years. . After graduating from the University of Texas in Austin as an Family Nurse Practitioner I worked for 18 yrs at a community clinic that served "the working poor" ( until the Affordable Care Act). My patients usually presented to the ER very sick and had no medical home so upon discharge our clinic would become there new medical home. Many of these people had chronic conditions that had not been addressed for years due to social barriers. I took care of many complex patients and their family members. I enjoyed taking care of refugees from all over the world ( using our language line), provided affordable health care for Austin’s low-income, uninsured working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness. I worked with all ages- including newborn checks and well child checks as well as women's health. We also took walk-in so I have acute /urgent care experience as well. I am currently volunteering at Volunteers in Medicine and plan to be working soon at Family Choice Urgent Care in Bend. I am excited to also be a board member of COAPP.
