*Recognize the role obesity plays in the pathogenesis

and epidemiology of common problems such as

diabetes, cancer, etc.

• Describe the impact of medical treatments for treating

obesity including interactions and side effects.

• Review bariatric surgery indications and results with

respect to common ailments in primary care practice

• Discuss prevention strategies

Speaker Bio:

Stephen Archer, MD, FACS directs Summit Medical Group – BMC’s bariatric weight loss surgery program. The program focuses on addressing obesity with modern medical and surgical treatment, research and education. Dr. Archer operates at St. Charles Bend, a fully accredited American College of Surgeons Center for bariatrics. Along with Dr. Archer, SMGOR – BMC’s weight loss surgery program is comprised of a comprehensive health team including a dietician, and a nurse navigator that all work together to provide patients with the highest level of care .In addition to the surgical aspects of obesity care he has a special interest in the psychological components that are a part of the disease of obesity
